Mitral heart valve regurgitation?

has anyone here had this? been treated for it, had it heal by itself or had surgery?

A Leaky heart valve basically, mostly with exertion, is it considered not so important now? how urgent would you rate this condidtion?

Mitral heart valve regurgitation?

I know someone who was diagnosed with it. They had to take antibiotics before seeing the Dentist and Diuretics for ankle swelling. Then 10 yrs later the Echo now shows no signs of it!? Here%26#039;s a good website: http://mayoclinic.com/health/mitral-valv...

Mitral heart valve regurgitation?

MVP (Mitral Valve Prolapse) is a flaw in the mitral valve of the heart. It can be mild or very serious, so it is necessary for you to have it checked out by a cardiologist. A leaky heart valve will be leaky ALL the time NOT just with exertion. Anyone who suspects they have this or if you have already been diagnosed, it should not be ignored, however surgery on this problem is usually not necessary.

Mitral heart valve regurgitation?

Mitral regurgitation is a condition where the regurgitant jet resulting from a faulty valve is allowed to backflow into the left atrium, thus imposing a volume load on both the left atrium and the left ventricle. This is actually quite serious in the long run, as it leads inevitably to decompensated heart failure with its associated complications.

Mitral regurgitation essentially is a problem with the mitral valve, the valve that regulates the flow of blood in a unidirection from the left atrium to the left ventricle. It will not heal by itself, and depending on the severity and acuteness of the pathology, either medication or surgery is indicated.

I would actually, on a scale of 10, rate this condition at a 7.5-8, of cuorse, depending on the severity of symptoms. it is important in that the long term complication is quite debilitating, and a checkup with the doctor with insight into long term treatment and lifestyle modifications if any should be done as soon as possible. We can try to prevent the onset of complications such as heart failure by using medications such as vasodilators, or doing procedures such as intra-aortic cardiac valvuloplasty. Severe conditions will require surgical interventions such as mitral valve repair or replacement.

Hope this helps. :D
