Could heart disease cause chest soreness to go on for over 2 months?

In a overall healthy 26 year old FEMALE, having chest soreness, not pains, just all over soreness for over 2 months, could that be heart issues? She is going to the doctor July 3rd...she had insurance issues that were really messy, but are finally clearing up.

At any rate, she quit smoking around this time as welll. The chest issues started a couple weeks after quitting. Also, if you push on her chest, the pain is worse. It is a little scary.

Does anyone know the odds of this being heart related? Also, any other suggestions of what this could be?

Not looking to diagnose her, just eeze her mind til she can get into the doctor.

Anyone know what she can expect at teh dr?

Thanks.

I would be the last one to tell you this is not a heart condition if I didn%26#039;t think there was a chance it was.

What I can tell you is the symptoms you are describing are nothing like what I felt prior to being diagnosed with a heart condition or since.

With me the pain/discomfort that I felt was never constant. It would peek and subside according to the level of activity I was performing. There were times that I would feel pressure when I was doing nothing but it would usually subside after a while. Nausea also accompanies my episodes. Shortness of breath and light headedness. The amount of food I ate also had a effect on how I felt. As long as I only ate until I was no longer hungry and didn%26#039;t stuff myself I wouldn%26#039;t get any dicomfort after eating.

Nobody here can diagnose what your friend is going through. Only a Dr who examines her can do that.

The only advise I am going to give is if for any reason whatsoever your friend starts to feel worse to the extent that she is having trouble breathing then do not ignore it and don%26#039;t wait for any darn appointment. Go directly to a ER. If she has trouble funtioning on her own AT ALL call a rescue squad.

Do not hesitate. I don%26#039;t know whether this is something serious or not but I truly believe (based on what I know and have experienced) that what you describe does not sound like it would be an issue with her heart. I%26#039;m no Dr though.

Wish her well from us...

doesn%26#039;t sound like heart problem as much as a muscle skeletal problem... as she quit smoking I would first wonder if she was trying to get healthy and had started any exercise program, if so that could be the cause... if she stopped smoking because she was having breathing difficulties then I might go for a chest xray and think about some issues with the lungs...

If its a heart problem I would expect her to feel worse after walking than just resting, if that is the case then she might need to worry and get someone to look ASAP. Heart problems can%26#039;t be put off... but you don%26#039;t give enough details for anyone to make even a reasonable guess. For starters is it all over the chest or just one spot if its one spot is it on a particular side or in the center. does it get worse from activity or is it constant and unchanging.

Based on the additional information you provided I would put heart and respetory way down on the list of likely causes. Muscle skeletal problem would be my first guess. Could be as simple as a strained or pulled muscle or simply twisted wrong....

Now... I might also suggest she get her blood pressure checked... she could do that at a drug store self check machine... but it is possible, not as likely, but possible that her blood pressure is very high. I had a patient with similar issues come in to the ER thinking they might be having a heart attack and the only issue that was found was very high blood pressure, the guy was taking meds for it but needed a higher dose. He was claiming soreness in his chest and some in his neck but no pain. Apparently the soreness started and was then followed days later by the neck pain. The neck pain was probably from the stress of worrying about the sore chest.

Part of her problem is likely her being worried. Stress can cause lots you to tense up muscles and if your already having soreness from some muscles it just gets worse you worry more and it gets worse and it just goes on and on.

She may find some comfort in simply changing the way she sleeps at night until she see the doctor.

chest soreness can be caused from stress

You should keep your MD appointment if symstoms excellerate seek ER care. This could be lung muscle tendon or heart related best to let the doc figure this one. Don%26#039;t think the worst until you see a professional you will only make yourself sicker with worry.

It sounds to me like she has costochondritis. It is an inflammation of the chest wall. It can be caused by a virus and there is no real treatment for it. Just use a heating pad and take an antiinflammatory medicine like Advil.

I am not thinking so much heart and I am perhaps either muscular or even respiratory. Because I remember when I would have asthma attacks or could feel one coming on there was chest pain involved that was similar to what you are describing. But I don%26#039;t think it is a heart issue. I would just tell/ask her to calm down, or even call the doctors office and most of the times they have a triage nurse and have her talk to the nurse and tell her what is going on, and see if there is anything over the counter like Aleve or something that she can take to at least help make her more comfortable

Good Luck to you.
