Patients with LOW Cholesterol Had The HIGHEST RATE OF DEATH FROM CHD?

Did you know that several studies have shown that patients with LOW cholesterol levels has the HIGHEST DEATH RATE FROM CHD?

Oganov RG, Sestov DB, DeevAD, et al. Increased risk of death from coronary heart disease in men with low blood concentration of total cholesterol according to data from a prospective epidemiologic study in Moscow with the framework of th Soviet- American co-operation Ter Ahrk 1991;63 (1) :6-11.

Corti MC, Guralnik JM. Salive ME, et al. Clarifying the direct relation between total cholesterol levels and death from coronary heart disease in older persons Annals Internal Med 1997 May 15 ;126 (10): 753- 60

Patients with LOW Cholesterol Had The HIGHEST RATE OF DEATH FROM CHD?

Stop yelling.

Patients with LOW Cholesterol Had The HIGHEST RATE OF DEATH FROM CHD?

You continue to misinterpret studies.

It%26#039;s interesting to note that when you claim that a study supports you, and the study actually does NOT, then you have no answer.

Patients with LOW Cholesterol Had The HIGHEST RATE OF DEATH FROM CHD?

Did you read the articles that you just cited?

From Annals of Internal Medicine:

%26quot;After adjustment for established risk factors for coronary heart disease and markers of poor health (including chronic conditions, low serum iron and albumin levels) and exclusion of 44 deaths from coronary heart disease that occurred within the first year, elevated total cholesterol levels predicted increased risk for death from coronary heart disease, and the risk for death from coronary heart disease decreased as cholesterol levels decreased (P for trend = 0.005).

Conclusions: Elevated total cholesterol level is a risk factor for death from coronary heart disease in older adults, and the apparent adverse effects associated with low cholesterol levels are secondary to comorbidity and frailty. This suggests that excluding older persons from cholesterol screening is inappropriate, but interpretation of screening results in older persons requires clinical judgment. Results from controlled clinical trials are needed to clarify this issue.%26quot;

In case you didn%26#039;t understand this - The deaths in patients with low cholesterol were due to other diseases. Once adjusted for this using other signs of poor health, the risk for death from CHD went down in patients with lower cholesterol.

I can%26#039;t comment on the first article, it is written in Russian. But I doubt that you have read that one either.

Patients with LOW Cholesterol Had The HIGHEST RATE OF DEATH FROM CHD?

Ok, so eating healthy might actually kill us??

Or, during the studies the patients were actually on medication lowering their cholesterol levels, all with CHD, meaning a lot of them died...

Or maybe deaths due to old age were counted as low cholesterol level.... in older persons as in the Annals internal Med 1997...
